What Is a Rigging Knife Used For?

The rigging knife is used to cut large ropes. You can drive the knife into the rope to sever it. This type of knife is often called a rescue knife and is considered an essential part of emergency gear. The handles of the rescue knife are easy to grip when your hands are cold and wet or you are wearing gloves.

You can use the shackle key to unscrew threaded shackles. It is also used for turning deck plates. The flathead screwdriver is always handy, too. One thing to keep in mind is that even though the knife is made of stainless steel, it can still be damaged by exposure to saltwater. For this reason, it is suggested that you coat it with lubricating oil at least a few times a year.
